Recently, somebody posted about adding translations for Tuxemon. I realize that we don't [yet] have any real campaigns, but is anyone willing to work on translations? What is your preferred way to edit text? Thanks!
Since I'm from germany I can translate tuxemon into german. Never did something like this before so I wouldn't know where to start.. but if you have any suggestions let me know
We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when. But I know we'll meet again some sunny day!
I guess to start, we would need to identify all the places where there are words to translate, dialogs, etc, then make a list. If non-programmers want to help out, then we could just have a text file of english words and dialogs. One of the programming team could then build the right file using that data.
Here is a link to the issue on github: https://github.com/Tuxemon/Tuxemon/issues/13
I know German, French, Portuguese, Luxembourgish and English. I can do some translation when I feel like it is big enough to start translating
Shouldn't this go to the "Writer" section?

Not sure which category fits best for this.. I mean this could be coding as well, since we need(ed) a little bit of code for the translation to work
When do you think is this big enough to start translating? I've done some translation and a little bit coding for this already. If you want to, take a look at the following:Translations - https://github.com/Tuxemon/Tuxemon/tree … /db/localeCode - https://github.com/tamashihoshi/Tuxemon … re/intl.py
(you might have already seen this since all things have been posted in the issue on github...)
(psst. welcome to the forum!)
(thanks for welcoming )Right now it has no story or any/many NPC interactions. When there are enough, I am going to start translating
I have added French translation (and changed German a bit )Adding Portuguese/BR translation soon

Thank you very much~
I've added a comment to your PR, take a look at it https://github.com/Tuxemon/Tuxemon/pull/102
I'd like to say "Thank you!" to all of our translators so far! We have 9 languages supported (including English), and I'm really excited about it!! I've been play testing and debugging in the Russian locale to look for locale bugs.
One issue a few people have mentioned is "How do I translate dialogs in the maps?" I promise that I've got a solution in the works. One issue that nobody has brought up though is that the descriptions for items was duplicated in English. I've gone through the code and hopefully made it easier to add descriptions for items and techniques in your native language.
In the not so distant future, it will also be possible to have descriptions for monsters, and with some recent changes, it will be possible for monster's descriptions to be fully localized as well.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone, and let them know that I'm working to make sure all aspects of the game can be localized. For map makers and programmers, there is a change in how game objects are referenced in code, and items and techniques from now on will require a "slug" field. In brief, the slug field helps programmers and content creators reference objects without conflicting with translations. I won't get into the details, but if you are interested, I have more details on the github pull request for this: https://github.com/Tuxemon/Tuxemon/pull/165

Thank you bitcraft! As a non-programmer, I really appreciate the updates on how the code side of things is changing, and what it means for us on the asset side of things.
