I don't play (much) Pokemon myself, so I'm not even sure if this is an answerable question.. but what is your favorite pokemon game? And why?
I have played Pokemon Blue as a kid, I still have the original gameboy game here, and a (manly-pink) gameboy advance... but, of course, the battery or something is broken so I cannot save the game. I never had fun playing pokemon on the pc emulated.. tuxemon might be something I'll be playing, when there's some campaign... (wow im getting off-topic in an off-topic thread)
Are there pokemon fangames you like? Are there other "not-classic" pokemon games you liked alot (example: mystery dungeon)?

I only played the first two generations (Red/Blue/Yellow and Silver/Gold/Crystal), and I'd have to go with gen2. The newer generations just have too much going on, in my opinion.
I feel like those games hit a sweet spot in regards to complexity. Lots of new features were introduced as Quality of Life improvements (making the select button an assignable hot-key so I can quick-launch my bike with a single press? sweet. Being able to then switch it to my fishing rod when i'm trying to get a horsea? AWESOME) in that generation. Acorns collected in the wilderness to make specialty pokeballs, breeding, time-based evolutions, new types, Pokemon happiness, etc. All good stuff.
I've played the first (Blue), second (Gold) and third generations (FireRed). I think the third generation represents something of a peak:

The simple, tight plot of Red/Blue remains my favourite, but that's in FireRed! (The additional filler they added after that plot wraps up is all a waste as far as I'm concerned).

That's some really cool stuff Sanglorian. I kinda missed out on the newer generations because I couldn't afford to get the newer handhelds. Also, as I've gotten older, it gets harder to deal with the grindy nature of games like Pokemon (and Final Fantasy, for instance).

True true.. Grinding isn't that much fun. But maybe that's because of all that free-to-play-with-boobs-to-see-mmorpg which are all grinders Also one doesn't have that much time anymore. There are some games I'd love to play, but I simply take too long to get any further and then, somewhen, i simply loose interest..
So from what sanglorian said, firered seems nice... I might give it a try maybe ^_^
I've started playing fire red and... it feels so weird because I know all these dialogues from when I was a child from pokemon blue xD
so.. would you say I dont have to play pokemon blue again if I play firered?

I don't have a favorite...all I know about the series is that as a kid, I was the only one in my circle of friends that was interested in it, and since nobody wanted to buy a copy along with me, I never did.... So, I've been watching Let's Play videos occasionally to learn about it. I probably won't play because it is pretty old school and designed for kids with lots of free time; like others have mentioned, I just don't have time to grind away.

About the grindiness of pokemon.. how will tuxemon be? Should we keep that grinding? Or should we try to build some kind of way around of the grinding?
I never played much pokemon because of too much grind; I guess quite a few people dont play pokemon because of that...
grinding has its good and bad sides. when you do a livestream on twitch as an example, the grinding gives you some time to talk with the community... the game itself might be a little boring, but lots of streamers like that "free time" for talking...maybe the exp distrubution could have 2 possiblities? classic and modern or something like that... and with modern exp distribution you could save some time Idk....

Overall, I'd like a non-grindy experience, but I feel it kinda defines the genre, and there are players who really like that sort of thing. Maybe we could tweak the levels and what not to make Tuxemon hunting/griding more optional than forced. I do know some levels in the original games force you to fight, and maybe we could limit that sort of thing (like putting tall grass between places you need to go). Optionally, adding a "repellent" type object early on so players can avoid combat would also be nice.
Another way to think about the problem would be to make combat more interesting. I don't think our target players are going to be young (and not able to play a complex game), so maybe more elements of strategy or difficulty would make grinding less awful.
Hey folks, we came up with a few ways of reducing grind on this thread.
I've thought a bit more about auto-resolving combat since that thread, and I thought it could go like this:
If your first TXMN has a move that would do enough damage (on average) to knock out the random encounter in one hit, then when the random encounter begins, a screen pops up:
EYENEMYROCKITTEN to use THUNDER? Or GO TO FULL BATTLE 
If you chose the former, EYENEMY would be knocked out, ROCKITTEN's THUNDER PP would reduce by 1, and XP would be awarded.
If you chose the latter, it would play like normal.
Thanks for the info Sanglorian. I didn't know about that thread. Anyway, I see this thread starting to get derailed. I like that proposal, and maybe we could eventually add it. It actually doesn't seem like a hard thing to do.
