What do you guys think? There's a few spots where I need to correct some colors, but for a rough draft, I don't think it's that bad.

Here are some sprites I built off of another sprite in this game. He looks good for some official boss or gym leader- what do you think?

I think these two sprites are a pretty good start. One critique I have is they seem a little flat. Try working a bit on the shading to give the sprites a little bit of depth. There's a pretty good tutorial on sprite shading here: http://makegames.tumblr.com/post/426486 … t-tutorial

There's also some other threads that have pretty good guides on making pixel art that might be helpful.

Okay...I'm learning shading, so here is another group of sprites, and this time it's a girl.

Maybe she could replace the maple sprites, because, no offense, but they're kinda weird. So, any pointers are welcome. Also, if you look above, you'll notice I improved the boss sprites up above, but I don't think I'm done yet. I'll fix the old man sprites later, so keep an eye out wink

You should start a new thread topic for these sprites. Right now the current Maple sprite was just a placeholder until we had more sprites to work with. The current Maple sprite could also be used as a template to make new sprites.

One thing I'm considering is setting up a sprite layering system for these sprites so we could use a template (like the current Maple sprite) as a base, and then we would have separate sprite sheets with animated clothes, hair, etc. that could be overlaid on top of the template. This would let us mix and match clothing and hairstyles to more easily create new characters. This same system could also be used to allow the player to customize their own character when they start the game.

So, are new sprites even needed at this time? And your idea is super cool and way better than Pokemon! You are a game genius!

New sprites are definitely still needed. In the future though, it might be better to create sprites of clothes/hair walking separately that we can overlay on a template sprite.

Hey, are these sprites around somewhere? I've added the others in this thread to the wiki, but the link to this one is broken.
