NUDIFLOT, The Flopped Tuxemon
Type: Water
Nudiflot eats the poison stingers, barbs and fangs of other tuxemon.
(Based on glaucus atlanticus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucus_atlanticus)

This is my first try at pixel art - please do give me your feedback, or go ahead and edit the sprite yourselves.

Type: Earth
Miaownolith evolves from Memnomnom. It can speak, but only to ask riddles.
(Based on the Easter Island heads and lions, as well as the Sphinx in Egypt and the sphinxes in The Neverending Story).
Again, I welcome any advice/fixes.
EDIT: And another:
MEMNOMNOM, The Dead Tail Tuxemon
Type: Earth
(Based on the Mask of Agamemnon and mummified Egyptian cats).

Lead Developer · 374 commentsI think Nudiflot looks awesome! I'd love to see the back and menu sprites for it!
The Miaownolith and Memnomnom look a little creepy in my opinion.... Something about those cold, dead eyes on the Memnomnom.. I think the Easter Island/Egyptian theme is pretty cool. Stylistically they seem very different than some of the other current monsters though. I think if the color palette was tweaked a bit for these two and some minor design changes (face, eyes, claws) were made I think they could be good additions.

Champion · 550 commentsHey ShadowApex, please feel free to make any changes that you like. Miaownolith follows the established colour palette; Memnomnom has some browns and oranges added.
My understanding, however, is that the palette is intended to be expanded to 256 colours (like Fire Red) in the future. Does it make sense to colour contributions using just the limited 30-colour palette when later contributions will be operating under a very different palette?

By ShadowApex 27 Oct 2015 18:39
Lead Developer · 374 commentsYes, I think expanding the color palette to 256 colors is the way to go. I actually wrote a small project called PySNESify that will convert an image to fit the color limitations of the SNES/GBA, meaning that every color value is a multiple of 8. So, if you wanted, you could create a sprite with any colors you choose, and then run it through PySNESify to change the colors to the closest related colors in the 256 color palette.

Champion · 550 commentsHuh, neat. Do you also have the SNES palette in *.gpl? If so, I'll load it up on my copy of Aseprite.

By ShadowApex 29 Oct 2015 19:50
Lead Developer · 374 commentsSure. I generated a palette from the colors available in GBA here:

So I've done some thinking about what makes a good Fakemon, and spent some time looking at lots of Pokemon sprites, and I decided to take another shot at Memnomnom.
What do you think of this one?
EDIT: And the original for comparison:
EDIT 2: And the menu sprites:

The new Memnonom looks great! I think I prefer it over its old design.

Here's another: Firefox.
This came out of thinking about the suggestion elsewhere on these forums that we make monsters for each of the free software/open source mascots. I also have thought for a while that it'd be nice to have a fire starter that isn't a hot colour.
Firefox.
I was idly brainstorming and thought that a Water buffalo/gnu (for GNU) and a Wood thorny devil (the GIMP mascot) would make nice matching starters. One interesting quirk would be that each of them would be named something other than what it was: the Firefox is a red panda, the thorny devil (EDIT: I mean mountain devil) is a plant, not a devil, and the water buffalo would actually be a gnu.

Lead Developer · 374 commentsThis is a really awesome sprite! The shading on the smoke is perfect! I too really like that this particular fire creature centers around grays and smokey colors instead of the typical reds.
I'm not too sure about naming creatures after the actual free software though. I'd like to more subtly reference the free software mascots instead of outright calling them what they are. Even something like "Flamefox" or "Foxfire" would do. What do you think?

Champion · 295 commentsI really like this pixel art! You've really been working! Thanks for all of your contributions! I like the name Firefox, since that's the name of the popular open-source web browser

I tried my first trainer sprite: http://faow.referata.com/w/images/Tennis_Ace.png
This looks good! My only thoughts on this is the face looks a little squished. I think if the sprite's hair was taller it would make the character's head look more proportional. Here's the only other character sprites I have as a reference:
Thanks
Here's Lambert, inspired by the mountain devil shrub and the GIMP mascot Wilbur.

(P.S., I agree with you that the proportions are a bit off on the trainer. I was actually trying to make him a kid, so I might adjust the body proportions at some point, as well as the head.

Head menu sprite for Foxfire (as suggested by Leo)
Back sprite for Foxfire
And for my own amusement, devamped Memnomnom and Lambert:
EDIT: And Lambert's final evolution:
I actually want to add a mountain devil flower to this TXMN's back or tail, but I can't figure out how at this stage.
EDIT 2: And Dandicub, which I posted on the Dandy Lion thread but am reposting here for completeness:

Champion · 550 commentsI'm not totally happy with this sprite, but I'll post it up here and put up a new one if I ever change it:
The idea behind the CAT GIRL trainer class is that it's tedious to fight BUGCATCHERS and BIRD CATCHERS because all their PKMN are the same type - you just send out Pidgey or Pikachu and blast each one in turn.
The CAT GIRL still follows a theme - cats - but cats can be from any type (we already have Metal, Wood and Earth cat-like TXMN). It's more interesting, and more of a challenge.
Other themes could include going by the colour of the TXMN or its habitat.

cool. I did my own version of her. with gimp.
I HATE GIMP!!!!!eleven
this took me ages ;A; but I think its okay. I didn't color it, because the "lineart" itself already took too long.
If you like my version of her, you could color it. This could be a different trainer as well, since she looks older.. because of 2 reasons: Left and Right
..hahaha xD
EDIT:
basic colours, so its easier to apply correct colors:
