Monster Concepts
Awesome Leo!! I have a question for ShadowApex. What is the recommended format for menu sprite-face or whole body? If face, does it still need to be animated?
Here's a quick portrait sprite to go with it.
I love how these look! Thanks for all your work!

We've decided to move towards using face sprites instead of whole body sprites for menus. They still need a 2-frame animation just like the previous menu sprites.

Champion · 550 commentsHi josepharaoh99, those would be great! Unfortunately I noticed that jozzer26 had based those on other people's designs, which he can't give us permission to use (despite the Creative Commons Attribution licence). I got in touch with him and he said he'd prefer that we don't use the stuff on his deviantArt page (the original Fruitera should be fine) - but that when he gets free time he'll join the project and create some custom stuff for us

Member · 11 commentsIf this is where incomplete sprites go, I stated practicing making sprites today. I read through the "making a creature" stickied post and decided to practice by making a wood type bird. I was thinking I'd try and make the feathers look like blades of grass. However, because of my beginner's level skill I was only able to produce this:
I do have some technical questions too. Are the sprites still 40x40, 48x48, and 56x56? Mine is 48x48 and it looks very small. Also how many colors are on the pallet. I tried to import the .gpl but think I might have done it wrong. I found it hard to find greens that looked different enough.
If you have any tips for a beginner let me know.

Champion · 295 commentsHyah, lukejodonnel. Great to see you making sprites now!
1. Each Tuxemon has 4 sprites to be made before being put into the game
Front: (64x64 pixels)
Back: (64x64 pixels)
Menu Sprites: (24x24 pixels)
For the color palette, you can use pysnesify to convert your Tuxemon's colors to the colors allowed by Tuxemon's palette. pysnesify is here: https://github.com/ShadowApex/pysnesify

The sprite looks okay. It could use some edits, but it's a great concept. Possibly the wings can taper down more to a sharp tip. I'll try to edit it some, but I'm no pro either.
Thanks for helping!!

What do you think?
Next step you're gonna take is shading. So, what you want to do is make the creature look like a light is shining on it from the top left, like this:

Thanks lukejodonnell, good first attempt!
The total size of each sprite is 64 by 64 pixels, but you're right that smaller tuxemon should be smaller. However, think of 40x40/48x48/56.x56 as drawing a box around the main details of the tuxemon - so in the case of a bird, the face and body. The wings could extend beyond that box.
I've also struggled finding good greens in the default palette. I would recommend using whichever colours you think work best, and we can always tweak later.

Im gonna say something now...
I..
I...
...have looked only... ONCE at the palette but Im totally ignoring it ;A;
so luke, its okay, people didnt hit me so far, so you'll be fine as well
we will have to go through all sprites anyways, review everything, fix if anything has to be fixed, check the style, decide which tuxemon will finally go into the game, pysnesify it all etc...
also:
if you have questions or want critique, you can use the forum
if you are "just" working on your sprite, you might as well use https://tree.taiga.io/project/tuxemon-tuxemon/kanban if you want to; you dont have to though, im just trying to use kanban to try out the workflow

Wanted to use them in my game, but I don't think I'll finish it.
I tried to follow rules as hard as I could, but there are still some mistakes.
I wanted to name it "Ing-Ing", but you can name it any way you want.
Earth/metal type
Due to it's too generic look it can be the most common tuxemon
P.s. I just read size rules on wiki. It should be a giant rabbit

Thanks for your post! Also thank you very much for your effort in following the rules
The tuxemon really looks a bit generic. Thats nothing too bad though, IMO we lack a few generic tuxemon to appear in masses (like pidgey in pokemon)
but maybe it looks too realistic (other than size), so a few color changes or slight fur changes might be cool (maybe to make it look like a bunny living in a desert)
I think I like the name
will it have a pre/evolution?
does it help you if i hint out what kind of mistake you did and how you can fix it?
(usually I do a quick edit to show it but for the next few weeks i sadly have no time.. maybe josepharaoh or someone else can show a few things???)
