The tornado attack looks a little rough but still looks pretty good when it's animated.
I think it's a little TOO rough... I wanted it to be rough, but only a little. I might do another wind attack later. Thanks for the references

time for a new tuxemon~

Champion · 261 commentstried to do some overworld sprite of rock kitten. not sure if its okay, but i've read in some thread, someone wanted monster overworld sprites. are these okay?
i have no idea about the size.. i tried to look at the current player sprite size, which is 16x20px if im not mistaken.. so i tried to make rockkitten the same size, but smaller, because i think rockitten isnt that big...
aaaanyways, wanna hear some thoughts on this little dude~
thanks ^_^

Lead Developer · 374 commentsDune Pincher looks awesome! I love the arabic flavor to it! I'll add this new monster as soon as I can
The Rockitten overworld sprite looks great! Player/NPC sprites can actually be at a maximum of 16 x 32 pixels in size, but less than 20 pixels high is good for most overworld sprites. Since Rockitten is a small monster, I think this is a good size.
I haven't been requiring overworld sprites for all monsters at the moment, but if we want to have monsters follow the player around we would definitely need them. It's possible we could just support the starters unless sprite sheets are made for every monster.

Im not sure how useful an overworld graphic of rockitten is.. I'll finish it soon (almost done but im not at home again) but I don't think we could make sprite sheets for every monster... I guess there will be alot of monsters, and when fusing them, things get even more complicated
If only the starters are supported, it would be okay... BUT, there has to be a reason why the starters follow you and why the others don't...
some idea do that: if we have, as an example, 3 starters, I'd have 2 ideas to solve the follow/not follow problem...
one thing could be, that the starters are only following you through the start or only in specific scenes... which means, they are involved in the story somehow (like, you free them from some place, you run out of there together, and at the exit you fight together... afterwards the tuxemon likes you, joins you and doesnt "follow" you anymore but is in your inventory)
another idea: the starters always follow you. for that, they would need some kind of personality and have a commenting role in the game, walking with you, fighting wiht you, and talk with you (I think pokemon yellow had something similar to this with pikachu). This has one "problem": you can't use your starter like normal tuxemon (can't fuse with others because of the sprite sheet problem). But evolving should be no problem...
About the not-working-fusion.. one could say the main char has some kind of friendship or is emotionally bound to the tuxemon and doesnt want to fuse it with others. or the tuxemon doenst want to fuse. idk. im just blabbering ideas.

Champion · 261 commentsHi,
made a few changes on the overworld rockitten. Since my original overworld rockitten looked more like a slightly fluffy kitten I tried add some lines to show the rock edges. Not sure if it worked to be honest. Take a look:
Rockitten Overworld spritesheet:
Animated:

By ShadowApex 17 Jan 2016 11:05
Lead Developer · 374 commentsI think this looks great! I think lines do make it more rock-like, which was a good call. I'll try and add this sprite sheet as an NPC sprite, so it can be used like any other NPC. Thanks for the sprite!
I like the idea of the starters being able to follow you, and it makes sense that you wouldn't be able to fuse them. Fusing would make it much more difficult for us to change the sprites based on what you fused it with. We'd only be able to do something like that if we made world sprites for every monster (which would be cumbersome).
I think having a special bond would solve the problem of preventing fusion of the starter. Another idea is we could make fusion create a whole new monster, instead of actually fusing together 2 existing monsters. This would make it more like traditional breeding, but the resulting monster would be a new species with a sprite that is a fusion between the two "parents".

Champion · 261 comments- is back after a few days of work - ..what happened in my thread? o.O
ill quickly summarize my thoughts about the fusion: Since I'm not that much in the coding process (actually not even a bit) I don't care how you do the fusion.. but if you need more sprites (more head/body sizes etc) then I will update my sprites. I like the idea of fusing your tuxemon... there is so much potential and power in it! I hope we will be able to get it into the game
oh and, im alive btw. hi.
a quick update to my current situation: my university (which obviously always wants to be called "university of applied sciences") started and i will have exams soon.. also all my other work is still going on so I have lots of todo there. never the less (dunno how to write that) im working on a youtube channel (not mine of course, that one is still dead) and revived my deviantart account.. getting back to the internet and stuff
I will need some time to get back to tuxemon completely.. I will check the forum every few days though, im still here dont worry
------
i would be happy if you could continue this conversation about the fusion in a new thread so maybe a few more people might join. I didnt expect to see that much discussion about fusion when it says "tamashis contribs" somewhere above xD
maybe, if you do something like the "we need seperate parts with different sizes" people will see it early on and can contribute sprites that way and you might try it out... or if you say "we need a few sizes people have to use", that future submissions might match very soon..
Oh and btw: should I make a few test sprites to test the different approaches?

By ShadowApex 23 Jan 2016 23:44
Lead Developer · 374 commentsI've moved the fusion discussion to the Creature Fusion Discussion thread for further possible discussion.
Don't worry if you've got personal obligations. Thanks for your contributions thus far and we hope to see more of you in the future!
I think that making fusion sprites isn't a super high priority at the moment, but feel free to do so if you'd like to. I think other assets like creature sprites, npcs, tilesets, and animations are a higher priority at the moment.

Champion · 261 commentsI've started to make a sumobug prevolution based on leo's scribble..
Current state:
oh and yeah I didnt use his scribble, I like doing stuff from scratch

By ShadowApex 9 Feb 2016 01:54
Lead Developer · 374 commentsAwesome sprite!
As Leo mentioned in a separate thread, it does seem a little large. Creatures that take up the full 64x64 size should be considered "big" creatures. It's ok to make them smaller than the 64x64 limit if they're small creatures. I'm not sure if you were originally envisioning this creature being "big" or "small" (or "medium").

Actually I just made that sprite without even thinking.. haha ^^' didn't notice how huge the txmn is... I'm gonna fix that later
I wanted the caterpillar to be a rather small txmn... so yeah, this definitely needs a touch.
If you want to, you can add some changes on this sprite and it can be some different txmn... maybe remove the mask and put a different face, change the colors and the legs a little and you have a new txmn; the fixed caterpillar will look differently than this one I guess ^^
(wow, I really need a 'what I need to fix' list..)

By tamashihoshi 9 Feb 2016 08:03
Champion · 261 commentsa "what to fix" list can be found on my user wiki page here: https://wiki.tuxemon.org/index.php?titl … mashihoshi
not sure if we will use the wiki at all, but i dont know how to put up such a list in the forum

Champion · 550 commentsWhat a great update! The wind attack looks very professional.
I like that you've incorporated some of Leo's design, but kept Sumobug looking very insect-like - which is one thing I thought was at risk of being lost in the illustration.
I had a play around with the larvae sprite and stuck the head from the old one on the body of the new one. I think we can get away with quite big heads on unevolved tuxemon, and I think this looks pretty cute. What do you think?

you are right, the big head/face looks pretty cute
Hmm.. since we have different colored tuxemon sometimes.. could we also have tuxemon with different body proportions? we could have both of them then; of course with a little color change and stuff...
if I had to choose though, i think would choose the big headed one. it just looks too cute ;A; good work on that!

so far I didnt do any sprites for tuxemon using the alpha channel but for some battle animation it might look cool... but less retro

Use of semi-transparent sprites is totally fine. Tuxemon was specifically designed to combine the modern drawing techniques with a retro-influenced aesthetic.

@ShadowApex
Transparencies are fine? Might be useful for some animations. Maybe....
I don't know how complicated that is but do you think something like different blend modes could be useful for the game? altough that's not necessary at all, its only a little fancy... xD

By tamashihoshi 18 Mar 2016 20:27
Champion · 261 commentsI did some tiny little bit of spriting... not sure if anything of this is useful
some status effects:
burnt, paralysis (thunder), paralysis (alternative; maybe when grabbed)
frozen, frozen (alt; transparent), dizzy/confused
some items:
book red, book purple (alt design), potion (a bit narrower than the original potion sprite, cures paralysis maybe)
key, keycard/idcard, some green phone
some random sprite:
the body looks a little awkward and useless but the head might be useful for a new tuxemon...

I'm stil alive. But ill. Good thing about beeing ill for a week or so: You've got time to do hobbies (when feeling well enough). So yeah... here's a sprite I did today. I even did a livestream of this on twitch, but a laggy one since my pc is still dead and Im using some old laptop...
Enough of my bla bla. Behold, the masknake!
without lightail:
with lightail:
edit: the light on the could be transparent... it wouldn't look like a blue ball then. but it's up to you if you a) like the light and b) if you want it transparent and c) if the tailtip sould also be blue because of the light....

Champion · 261 commentsHere comes a new Tuxemon!
Idea for the third evolution:
When evolving from stage 2 to stage 3, the egg hatches and disappears (so the third stage is only a bird)
with the hatched egg, another tuxemon appears in your inventory (or tuxemon storage); maybe different bird, maybe something else...
Edit:
Very cool sprite. Thanks tamashi! Hope you feel better!
Oops forgot to reply.
Thank you, yeah I feel better now
